BEAUFORT RIVERWALK

FISHING Aqua Sports Inc.–Sea Wolf Charter (843-525-1174; seawolfcharter.com), 1 Landing Drive, Port Royal. Offering charters daily 5 AM–6 PM. If it involves water, Captain Waldo Phinney can do it. He earned his Eagle Scout badge as a 13-year-old for saving an even younger swimmer in distress off Hunting Island Beach. He learned the waters around Hilton Head Island while his father was stationed at Parris Island. After graduating from Clemson University, Captain Wally joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War. These days, he is “retired” to a life of taking visitors to the Lowcountry fishing aboard the Sea Wolf VI, a 35-foot Power-Cat. He welcomes all skill levels, but won’t take anyone younger than 8. The maximum number of anglers is six. Since it is a charter, guests and Captain Wally set the itinerary and pricing individually depending on the customers’ needs. Guests bring their own food, beverages, sunscreen, and seasick remedies; Captain Wally provides the rest.

Drifter and Gypsy Excursions (843-363-2900; hiltonheadboattours.com), 232 South Sea Pines Drive, Hilton Head Island. Reservations are required for deep-sea and inshore shark fishing on one of three boats, including the Boomerang, which offers private sport-fishing charters. Boats operate March through November out of the South Beach Marina in Sea Pines Plantation. In addition to fishing trips, the company offers dolphin watching and educational children’s cruises.
